Elon Musk’s $1 Million Voter Payments Stir Controversy Ahead of State Supreme Court Election

Billionaire Elon Musk has intensified his involvement in Wisconsin’s political landscape by distributing $1 million checks to two voters during a town hall event in Green Bay. This initiative aims to bolster support for conservative Supreme Court candidate Brad Schimel in the upcoming election. Musk’s actions have sparked legal challenges, with Wisconsin’s Democratic Attorney General Josh Kaul attempting to halt the payments, arguing they violate state laws against offering inducements to voters. However, both the Wisconsin Supreme Court and an appeals court declined to block Musk’s giveaways, allowing the event to proceed as planned. WLUK+9Reuters+9AP News+9Business Insider+1AP News+1ABC News

Musk defended his contributions, asserting that the election’s outcome could influence “the entire destiny of humanity.” His substantial financial involvement, exceeding $20 million, underscores the high stakes of this judicial race, which is poised to impact critical issues such as abortion rights, labor laws, and voting regulations in Wisconsin. Journal SentinelPolitico+2AP News+2Reuters+2
