National Donut Day: FRI June 6th, 2025 – Get your Free Donuts in Wisconsin

“National Donut Day: A Sweet Slice of History and Happiness”

Move over, kale chips—June 6th is for glazed, filled, and frosted goodness! Every year on the first Friday in June, donut lovers nationwide celebrate National Donut Day, a cheerful tradition packed with sugary joy and historical roots.

From the Trenches to Your Tastebuds

National Donut Day isn’t just about satisfying cravings. It was created in 1938 by The Salvation Army to honor the “Donut Lassies”—women who served fresh donuts to U.S. soldiers in World War I. These brave volunteers fried donuts in helmets and served them with a side of homegrown compassion on the front lines.

So, when you bite into that Boston cream or maple bar, you’re also taking a bite of history.

Ways to Join the Celebration

? DIY Donuts – Fried or baked, ring-shaped or filled—homemade donuts can be fun and creative.

? Throw a Donut Social – Set up a donut decorating table, share unique flavors, or create a donut tasting flight with friends.

? Give Back – Honor the holiday’s origin by donating to the Salvation Army or a local charity.
