Aaron Rodgers 2014 Year Looks Like A MVP Year

Packer fans believe that our QB is the best in the league but now it looks like the rest of the league will have to acknowledge that Rodgers IS indeed the BEST quarterback in the NFL. His 2014 season is proving to be just as good if not better than his 2011 MVP year.

According to Pro-Football-Reference.com Aaron Rodgers has the best adjusted yards per pass attempts at 8.81 now making him the best thrower of all time in the NFL. He has passed Tony Romo, Peyton Manning, Tom Brady, Drew Brees, and Ben Roethlisberger.  He also ranks first in all-time career passing rating according to footballdb.com.

In 104 games he has 3,268 ATT / 2,154 CMP / 65.9 PCT / 26,945 YDS /  55 INT /  216 TD / 3.93 TD/INT /  Rating 106.4

In second place is Tom Brady with a rating of 96.1 in 203 games. Brady’s numbers are quite literally double what Rodgers are except in rating. No one even comes close. In addition Brady has been in the league 5 years longer than Rodgers. The next current player on the list is Manning with 250 games playing from 98-14 and a rating of 97.7. Young is number 4. Nobody can touch Rodgers. So when it comes to who is the best QB in the league there is no argument.

Fans of other teams can make every argument they want. Amazing receivers can make any quarterback great. Amazing quarterbacks make the receivers great. Rodgers has had 16 different Packers catch TD passes from him with his longest being 93 yards plus 3 non Packers in the Pro Bowl.

This could go down as Rodgers best year ever. In the quick 158 yard start and eventual 53-20 win over the Eagles Rodgers broke a couple of NFL records. He now has 322 consecutive attempts and 29 TDs at home  in a row without an INT and both are a NFL record.

Rodgers was pulled out of 4 games early because the Pack was ahead by so much. The MN 42-10 win / CAR 38-17 win / CHI 55-14 win / PHI 53-20 win. Can you imagine what his numbers would have been had he been kept in and allowed to play? Not only would he have obliterated the TD record but his MVP numbers would have been shattered.  2011 after week 10 was at 317 yards per game and a TD/INT ratio of 31/4 2014 after week 10 is 275 yards per game and TD/INT ratio of 28/3.

Right now ESPN is projecting his year end numbers to be at 4,297 yards, a 67.5 cmp percentage, 44 TDs, and 5 INT. His 2011 MVP year was only slightly better as you can see below. When you account for the four games he got pulled early and factor that time back in his is clearly the MVP this year.

In case you are interested here are what Rodgers numbers were in his 2011 MVP year

2011 MVP Year

Completions 343

Attempts 502

Yards 4643

Touchdowns 45

Interceptions 6

QB rating 87.05

Average passing per game 317

TD INT ration 31-4

One thing is for sure, we have been spoiled in GB. There have only been a handful of cases in the NFL where a city has been lucky enough to get two MVP QBs back to back that have taken their team to the Super Bowl. San Fran with Montana and Young and besides that example I can’t think of another one. In fact if you try to do a search it’s near impossible to find another example.

If you can think of one I welcome you to share it…because even though I love football I don’t know everything….but for now
