Festive and Unique Running Events

Running has become a top pastime for a lot of Americans. From the classic 5K to the daunting Marathon, there’s a distance for everyone!

The themed or novelty run has become more and more popular. Illinois offers a lot of these that all runners should check out.

Here are a couple of fun and festive runs to try before the end of the 2014 Running Season!

Hot Chocolate 15k/5k

This race is known for its unique post-race party. Finishers can enjoy their very own finishers mug filled with chocolate fondue, dip able snacks and decadent hot chocolate. 

Long Grove Turkey Trot 8k/5k

Get a great workout in before your big Thanksgiving Feast! The event course takes you through the downtown historic streets of Long Grove finishing under the famous covered bridge. Runners can enjoy beer and hot cider at the finish line!

Ugly Sweater Run Chicago

Join fellow runners at Soldier Field in your ugliest sweater! The post race party features hot chocolate, Sam Adam’s Winter Lager, Boston Lager, or Angry Orchard Hard Cider. Kickoff your holiday festivities with a 5k!

Rudolph Ramble 8k & Donner Dash 

Chicago’s most festive 8k features toy donations to the Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital. The Donner Dash is for children 2-12 years old and staged in various heats for specific age groups.
