Roadside In Wisconsin

Roadside in Wisconsin will be a, sort of, travel blog. Basically it will be snippets of information of beautiful roadside locations in Wisconsin. Pull over (safely of course) and take a picture or enjoy the roadside beauty.

This weeks “Roadside In Wisconsin” blog is a particularly favorite spot of mine in my local area of Hayward, Wisconsin. One of the best Friday night fish fry’s is located on Hwy Nn about about 16 miles outside of Hayward on Co Hwy B, at Chief Lake Lodge. On the way there, you travel down a winding, backwoods, reservation highway. Near the end of the trip you will come across a low bridge with water on both sides. I believe it is a flood control system used to control the Chippewa Flowage. During the early months of spring during the snow melt, they open the flowage up and allow the water to move freely down stream. At this time, at the exact spot where my picture was taken, instead of water, you will see a mud hollow with exposed tree trunks. It is quite a sight on its own as well. Haunting and beautiful all at the same time. Today, I will be showing a stunning Wisconsin sunset on the flowage. The first photo will be facing east and the second will be facing the west as the sun is just dipping behind the foliage. After viewing the picture perfect spot, I suggest visiting Chief Lake Lodge, just down the road on Chief Lake Road and saying high to Rudy and the gang. The lodge has a breathtaking view of the Flowage right from your seat.
